Meet Patty Barkley, our Volunteer Spotlight for October. Patty has been volunteering with Loveland Habitat since 2016 when she retired and moved to Colorado from Minnesota. She wanted the next phase of her life to have a purpose and to be able to give back. She became inspired by Habitat for Humanity’s “hand-up, not a hand-out” approach while attending a volunteer orientation meeting. She appreciates that Loveland Habitat sets future homeowners up for success by giving them tools to grow, such as classes that focus on finances, getting out of debt, and home maintenance.
Patty has been involved with Loveland Habitat in numerous ways. She joined our Fundraising Committee and then our Women Build Committee. Every year since she became involved, Patty has organized a group of women from her neighborhood to participate in Women Build. She loves seeing women feeling empowered by learning new skills and working with power tools. She is proud to be able to spread Habitat’s mission with other women in her life through Women Build.
Patty is currently very involved with our Fundraising Committee as we prepare for our annual event, the Builder’s Ball. Patty is a crucial part of the team that procures and assembles items for the incredible live and silent auction. She says that it is hard work, but it is also fun work. She gets to see the community come together to support a charitable cause by providing a donated item for the auction. Patty is excited that we have received several donated items from companies who haven’t donated to Loveland Habitat before. She says that you will be able to bid on exciting trips, beer, wine, and spirits packages, handcrafted art pieces like a metal firepit and a beautiful stain glass window piece at this years Builder’s Ball.
When Patty isn’t volunteering with Loveland Habitat, she likes outdoor adventures such as biking, hiking, photography, or being at the racetrack with her husband. Patty, we can’t thank you enough for your years of service to Loveland Habitat’s mission and we appreciate all your hard work that goes above and beyond what is asked.
