October 4th is World Habitat Day

More than 35 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly took an important step in promoting the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live by declaring that the first Monday in October would be World Habitat Day. During World Habitat Day, Habitat for Humanity draws attention to the important role decent housing plays in elimination barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable house.

It is unacceptable that even before the COVID-19 crisis, more than 17 million U.S. households were paying half or more of their income on housing. Now, as the significant economic impacts of COVID-19 continue to unfold, the number of families struggling to make ends meet is only growing.

Everyone deserves to build the foundation for a stable, healthy future for themselves and their families – no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they earn.
