Meet Linda Jaster from Loveland Habitat’s Homeowner Selection Committee. Linda has been involved with Loveland Habitat for 3 years. She began as a construction volunteer and then helped in the office as an administration volunteer before joining the Homeowner Selection Committee in 2016. As a member of the Homeowner Selection Committee, she loves working with the Habitat homeowners one-on-one. Linda says she supports Loveland Habitat’s affordable homeownership mission because “so many deserving families in our community are locked out of the opportunity of homeownership due to stagnant wages and the rising cost of housing.”
In her professional life, Linda worked for 30 years at the Aurora Housing Authority and was the Deputy Director. Linda shares her great appreciation for homeownership and that she believes it is the foundation for improving a family’s life. She says that there is security & stability in homeownership that is not available in rental properties. Many renters worry about annual increases in rent or the landlord selling their home without the renters knowing, which can leave families homeless.
As a volunteer on the Homeowner Selection Committee, Linda gets to work directly with families and individuals who work diligently for the dream of homeownership. Linda recalls a special family that she had the pleasure of working with as they embarked on their Habitat journey. She recalls the story of a single mom who “worked so incredibly hard to do what is best for her kids.” She was living in a rental home and Habitat for Humanity was her opportunity to obtain her dream of homeownership. Linda says that she watched her juggling working full time, parenting 3 children, one of which has special needs, and completing her sweat equity for her home all while having a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is grateful to be a part of the Habitat Homeowner’s journeys as they work toward and move into their affordable home.
When Linda is not volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, traveling, and gardening. Linda, thank you for all the work that you do at Loveland Habitat for Humanity! We are glad you are on the team!
